Of my kitchen appliances and gadgets, the KitchenAid stand mixer is the most functional, bullet-proof, and dare I say….artistic. Since the 1930s, KitchenAids have looked pretty much the same, except for limited colors, and have aided the kitchens of our grandmothers, mothers, and now us. They continue to offer the same functionality and coolness as they did way back then. I have even heard that many of the parts are still interchangeable with the 1930s models!
These beauties are still American made. Although, they have a price tag, they are built with heavy components, and feel of industrial quality. A promise of quality that will last for years to come. My own mother’s KitchenAid is at least 30 years old, with no sign of wear or tear.
Besides the countless uses for baking, theses mixers offer a port for absolutely crazy attachments. Ever consider making your own chorizo or italian sausage? “Yeah, there’s an att (attachment) for that.”
Here is a list of different attachments you can add as you go: slicer/shredder, meat grinder, spiralizer (make veggie pasta), ice cream maker, pasta roller, citrus juicer, juice and sauce attachment, ravioli maker, food processor, sausage stuffer, pasta press, cookie press, frosted bowl and edge beater, Whisk-A-Bowl Blade, and grain mill.
Of the endless things that a KitchenAid can make, my own mixer has made thousands of cookies, hundreds of sausage links, and dozens of loaves of bread, among other things such as whipped cream, mashed potatoes, sauces, dips, cakes, icing, etc.
Finally, that I consider my Kitchenaid stand mixer a piece of artwork is not really an exaggeration. The design is mid-century modern, and with the countless color variations, these beauties make a statement in your kitchen.
Best time to buy: If you missed the boat on adding this to your wedding gift registry, these KitchenAid mixers are expensive. I have consistently seen them as Black Friday specials, and Amazon sells them, of course.
Truly, the KitchenAid stand mixer is one of the must-haves for any kitchen. And, since it is American made, you can love your community by supporting American jobs, while loving your table for years to come.
